Use of UAS for Traffic Enforcement Prohibited (Iowa Code §321.492B)Effective: 7/1/2014

Prohibits any state or political subdivision from using an unmanned aerial vehicle for traffic law enforcement.

Surveillance by Use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (Iowa HF 572, §715D.4)Effective: 7/1/2024

Makes it a serious misdemeanor to operate a remotely piloted aircraft equipped with a surveillance device over a homestead or secure farmstead area without consent; allows courts to order destruction of unlawfully obtained data.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Information Admissibility (Iowa Code §808.15)Effective: 5/23/2014

Information obtained as a result of the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle is not admissible as evidence in a criminal or civil proceeding unless obtained pursuant to a valid search warrant or in a manner consistent with state and federal law.

Intrusion by Use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (Iowa HF 572, §715D.3)Effective: 7/1/2024

Makes it a simple misdemeanor to operate a remotely piloted aircraft over a homestead or secure farmstead area without consent, and a serious misdemeanor for repeat offenses; allows courts to issue injunctions and require destruction of unlawfully captured images.
